There’s just really nothing quite like photographing a new baby. Seeing how the parents adore their new bundle. How the older siblings navigate their new roles as big brothers/sisters. And just the miracle that is the new life. It is truly an honor and privilege to be invited into someone’s home and capture the very first days of them with their brand new gift from God.
And while I am at it, a few notes about my approach to newborns. I always come to you. My goal with a newborn session is to capture the interaction of your family in those first days as you all get to know each other. I know it may seem stressful to have someone in your home after JUST giving birth. If you are anything like me, your thoughts are something like this…..My house was a wreck. I was exhausted. I certainly didn’t feel very good about my physical appearance. So I didn’t pay someone to photograph my family with our new babies. And if we are being totally honest with each other, it is one of my biggest regrets. That my own insecurity got in the way of us having those beautiful lifestyle images of the first days as a family. As a professional photographer (and a woman and a mom), I understand how to pose you to minimize areas of concern. I know how to shoot around clutter – heck I do it in my house on a regular basis! And it’s not about how nicely your house is decorated. Or how clean it is. Or even how you look. It’s about LOVE. Let me tell you, there is nothing like the love for a brand new baby. Those first cries. That baby smell. Those tiny wrinkly fingers and toes. The TINY clothes that swallow them whole. That one day you won’t even believe they ever fit in. I really encourage you to think about a lifestyle approach to your newborn session – with me or any photographer. I promise you, it is something that you won’t regret.
So now on to this family, Tanner is awesome. She monograms and appliques all the adorable things you see my kids wearing. She has an Etsy shop you should check out! She and Bo have two adorable little boys, so when she found out she was pregnant, she assumed it would be another boy. Well, she was shocked to find out that they would be adding some PINK to their house full of blue. Baby girl arrived just in time to celebrate her first Christmas. I can’t wait to watch her grow and see how she keeps this family on their toes! Thank you to the Howard family for allowing me to document this special time in your lives.
